I should have stayed at home... I should have stayed at home. That was the mantra going through my my mind on Christmas day (I hear what you're saying... moaning cow!). I should have known better when the maid suggested going away for Christmas and New Year to escape from "the rabble", instead I'm marooned here with the very definition of it. The weather has been crap, Christmas day was spent in the hotel room, couldn't go out, not without an umbrella. I ended up watching spanish television, So, My Grandma's A Lesbian with English subtitles (yes, that is an actual film) and Vera dubbed in Spanish. I couldn't watch the English channels as the bad weather kept interfering with the signal, it kept pixellating and losing sound. The maid is online, booking flights home, there's no way I'm staying here for a month.

We had a smug weatherman telling us about the inclement weather in Portugal and Spain! So sorry you’re there and not in England with our crisp, bright mornings - chilly, but dry.

I've returned home a week earlier thanks to RYANAIR an airline company I've never used before and doubt I will again, the people on board clap when the plane lands, can you imagine that? We booked the holiday in October, we had some good weather but very cold at night 10-12. I'm just sick of the place and of the turkey and tinsel brigade, a month there is far too long.

The poncho wearing couple were from our hotel, that should give you an idea to what the rest of the guests were like. The majority of old Spanish people are racist fuckers, I don't like them. I called one of them an old cunt at the buffet when she elbowed me out of the way. It was shorts and t-shirt weather when we went last year for New Year's. I much prefer the Costa Del Sol it feels like a proper holiday resort.
ReplyDeleteI only went to Benidorm once and, although I liked the old town, never felt drawn to go back - you're right, the Costa del Sol is much nicer. At least there are some more interesting places to go (like Malaga) even when the weather's shit. And it's warmer. Jx

I'm glad and relieved to be back home it wasn't just the bad weather that spoiled the holiday it was having to share a room with the maid, it was too cold for her to sleep on the balcony, as you can imagine she got has some very peculiar sleeping habits, she snorts in her sleep like a grampus coming up for air. My nerves were frayed.

ReplyDeleteWe have never been to Spain. And, we have to say, after reading your Spanish travel posts, we are unlikely ever to venture there. Indeed, it would seem that there are more Brits in Spain than in the UK....definitely a reason never to go there.
Now, can we tempt you to Budapest? No warm sunshine at this time of year but that is more than made up for by ice rinks in every park because of the sub zero temperatures all day and all night. Hungarian fizz is around £4.50 a bottle and both Putin and the Pope are regular visitors. There are virtually no Brits [the exception being ourselves] and the Ambassador [call me Justin] wears a short beige raincoat...always...

I will keep Hungary in mind when the time comes for me to emigrate, I recently viewed a travelogue with the lovely Susan Calman, she visited the thermal baths in Hungary it looked nice and not an undesirable in sight!
