Fox's Sports Biscuits Hunt

I scoured the biscuit aisle of three different supermarkets over the weekend looking for Fox's Sports biscuits.
These biscuits bring back wonderful memories of staying with my grandparents as a child.
In the last supermarket, Asda. I asked a young menial who was stacking the shelves if he had any Sports biscuits, "I'll just go and av a look in back for yer" five minutes later he returned, as he was walking towards me, I noticed he was very well endowed in the trouser department, I could see it bobbing about with each stride. "what were they called again?" he asked. For a few seconds I'd forgotten myself what they were called, when my brain eventually caught up with my eyes I told him. A passer-by who had been listening, told me they haven't sold them in here for years and that I'd find 'em in Erons' if you're not familiar with Heron it's a Northern frozen food shop a bit like Iceland.

So off to Heron I went. Not only did they sell Sports biscuits there, they also sold Arrowroot biscuits 42p I was thrilled. No Lincolns though. I could see the sales assistant at the till looking me up and down through narrow eyes. "The coat is Tom Ford, love and you're right, I don't normally shop here, whilst mentally striking her on the back of the head with a bag of oven chips.

  1. Are the Fox's Sports cookies shaped like little athletes?

I liked Animal Crackers when I was a kid. Often the animals would be missing a leg or head. Here someone has graphically illustrated the problem.

  2. Unfortunately not LX, these are rectangular shaped shortcake type biscuit with a picture of an athlete etched in them, in the olden days they used to be stickmen but they look more human nowadays. Those Animal Cracker look macabre and yet strangely tasty too. A good source of calcium and protein!

    1. To dunk or not to dunk that is the question.

    2. This is no question for me : Dunk, slurp 'n gulp ! Preferably Prinzenrolle Doppelkeks. It needs a bit of experience to avoid parts of it splashing in the coffee and hence looking like a swine at the trough, but it's worth it !

    3. I only ever dunk the einzigenkeks of the plain variety, never creams or chocolate coated. The Prinzenrolle Doppelkeks look divine, I shall buy a packet the next time I visit Lidl.

    4. I like to get the Prinzenrolle Schokoduo (chocolate cookies and chocolate cream filling) when I am in Berlin. Very tasty. No dunking for me.

    5. 'No dunking for me' I should think not LX those types of biscuits were meant to be savoured. Some biscuit companies have made their biscuits finger shaped especially for dunking. I blame the French.

  4. What exactly makes them sport related?

The only brand of tea biscuits available at my lowly local grocer is Walkers Shortbread. AND they cost a pretty penny. No dirty crusty found on the sidewalk penny...no sir...

    1. I'm game for anything after a sports biscuit.

Tea biscuits? I'd be playing merry hell in that grocers of yours if they didn't have a fine array of biscuits on display or cookies as you call em.
