Bounty Bars et Objets d'Art

I recently read somewhere that the humble coconut is the new superfood with metabolism-boosting qualities. I immediately went out and bought half a dozen Bounty bars.

Whilst tucking in, I noticed that they have done away with the little cardboard tray that they used to sit in, it completely ruined my tropical daydream experience, I felt cheated and ate the second piece in high dudgeon, blaming those bloody meddling bureaucrats in Brussels. Mind you, I'm still bitter with Lucozade for getting rid of the yellow cellophane that they used to wrap around their glass bottles.

Don't you just love it, when you see something you really like marked down to half price in the sales and then there is a further reduction at the till? I bought these two Abigail Ahern editions of Elizabethan dogs wearing period costume (you may scoff, but I like them!) from Debenhams for £6.80 a mega saving of £30.20! Yes, that is a genuine René Lalique glass bowl, cunningly disguised as a £2.99 Glade spiced orange and cinnamon scented candle holder.

  1. Does Ms Ahern offer a series of Elizabethan cats wearing period costumes? Uh, I'm asking for "a friend."

  2. I am still smarting about the loss of cellophane wrapped Lucozade bottles.... they were a highlight of being poorly when I was a child.... Lucozade is now branded as a sports drink, which is plain wrong.
I dunk my Bounty Bars. Is yum. The tray used to collect the drips.

    1. My old Great Aunt still calls it Glucozade! There was something very special about it been gift wrapped in cellophane, it was like receiving a proper present.

      Red or Blue?

    2. Blue! I don't think I've had a red one.

    3. I'm not fussed for the red ones.

  3. Sadly not LX, there isn't a single cat item amongst her collection.

But fear not, she's not the original artist of the dogs, so perhaps there is some cats wearing period costumes out there by the same artist. I've been scouring the internet for the original artist but with no joy. Christina Hess does a fine collection of cats in costume, I'm quite fond of her Queen Elizabeth I toying with a mouse.

  4. Hershey bars used to have the chocolate in tin foil that would slide out of the outer wrapper. I would eat the chocolate and slide the tin foil back into the wrapper, then hand it over to my brother with a magnanimous gesture of generosity that's generally reserved for orphans. He still talks about that one time I actually gave him something.

DO NOT BURN CANDLES IN A LALIQUE BOWL.

I will get out my foreign visa and set sail for the land of the Angles to rescue it! Even if it is a Gladé original knock-off.

p.s. Thank you for the birthday wishes.

    1. Ayem8y! It's nice to hear from you again! I was full of tricks like that when I was a child. My mother once bought a box of Cadburys Roses for an elderly neighbour at Christmas, you see the top left hand corner of the box (see link)? there is an opening, by squeezing the top slightly, it makes the opening even bigger, by turning the box upside down and shaking it, the chocolates fall out! I spent an entire evening in my bedroom opening the wrappers taking the chocolates out and replacing each chocolate with a stone from out of the garden. The same year my mother received a box of After Eights from the elderly neighbour with half a brick in it and a few empty wrappers. Oh how I laughed.

My maid has been trained well, whenever I have visitors that smoke, I send Carmen for an ashtray and she brings the empty glade candle holder, I gasp and say in dramatic tones "NOT THE RENE LALIQUE!" bring a saucer!

  5. I won't drink Lucozade now, even if I'm so ill I regress to 5 years old when it was given to me as golden, restorative elixir by my gran. It's not the same without the cellophane....cheap bastards.
I still take her tonic for the start of a cough though...sugar steeped in whiskey. Recommended.
I do like an animal in costume. I have a crow in a ruff by Kerry Evans. She's rather good.

    1. Proper hard sell on the Lucozades at my local garage this month 2 for £2.

I was admiring Kerry Evans' work via Google Image, I scrolled down and saw one of her topics was of Kerry Katona drunk on This Morning, it put me right off.

  6. Animals in clothes; Lucozade without the cellophane; Bounty bars minus the cardboard tray... There are some aspects of Modern Life that I clearly don't understand. And have you seen the size of Creme Eggs these days? They've gone from the size of a duck egg to a quail's, it's a disgrace. And I am a moaning old git. xxx

    1. Funny you should mention Crème Eggs, It was my turn to host Sunday's coffee morning, I served my speciality "Saturn Cakes" made from shop bought, ringed doughnuts with a Cadbury's Crème Egg peeled and lodged in the hole, I was inspired by watching my maid of all work Carmen doing the hula hoop in the garden. They used to be a snug fit, but now they sit quite loosely in the hole. They have definitely reduced in size, however, the price has stayed the same!
