    1. The test at the end caught me out. Did you point to each individual word reading it out aloud with your tongue lolling out too?

  2. Blimey. 72% faster than the national average. I owe it to my old English teacher who made us 'quitely read' for a double lesson while she nursed a hangover or nipped into the cupboard for a hair of the dog. I used to read quickly hoping I'd reach a bit where someone or something had sex...

    1. Well done. 366 WPM here! Pass the dunce hat. I used to enjoy reading the Janet and John books at school, Daddy with his Brillantine hair slicked back always got me aroused. They should bring them back, children today don't know what they are missing.

  3. Hello Mitzi:
Barely time to comment as we are already well into the first ten minutes of 'War and Peace' leaving just the 30 hours 37 minutes to go. A fun packed weekend lies ahead!

    1. Sounds gripping! I'm saving War and Peace for my retirement, I might have another crack at reading James Joyce's Ulysses too.

  4. 277 words and I answered the three questions correctly. It puts me a bit over the 8th grader but below the average adult. Yeah, Franconians come slow but mightily ... Now I want to know what is rummaging down that pit?!

  5. When English is not your mother tongue, you did excellent Mago. Have you heard Jeff Wayne's 1978 War of the Worlds album? It's a classic, narrated by Richard Burton and set to rock music. Have a rummage down that pit here

  6. I hit 436 even as I thought "This writing is rubbish." What was in the pit? And Waping sounds like a place I would leave just to go look at a pit.

  7. It was a lean, mean, martian killing machine MrP. We like our martians to cause death and destruction, not shuffle about with a plant pot of flowers between it's feet.

    1. Oh my. I actually read, or slogged my way through, War of the Worlds as a misguided youth. Rubbish.

  8. I didn't get past "Woking" as I started picturing scenes from Little Britain at that point.
