Count Down To Christmas

On each day of Advent, I shall open a door to reveal a winter treasure to delight and dazzle you.

From the Country life advent calendar

1st December: We have the (cough Virgin cough) Mary with child.

2nd December: Ding Dong Merrily On High!

3rd December: Take me under the mistletoe and I'll kiss you under the balls.

Enjoy a mince pie with this easy recipe.

Mmmm, mince pie! Thanks for the recipe. I usually use filo dough for the crust.

The recipe sounds easy enough. Mincemeat is "Hackfleisch" in German - is it mixed swine and cow or only cow or pure pig? And why did Cromwell fight against mince pies? What a humourless cunt!

Sweet/Christmas mincemeat is a mixture of stewed apples, sultanas and spices, cinnamon, nutmeg etc. I think the early mince pies used to have meat in them, but not nowadays.

During his reign, good old Olly banned Christmas and all things christmassy, including the humble mince pie, Christmas pudding and Advocaat.

You make the most serene Mary.

That's not me Ayem8y, I don't have child bearing hips and I'm barren.

I'm not a fan of mincemeat but after reading your post and the recipe I was willing to give it a second chance until I read the word "Hackfleish."
